LA CHUNGUITA (Micaela Flores Amaya) La Chunga, born to Andalusian gypsy immigrant parents in the southern French city of Marseille in 1938, moved to Barcelona as a toddler and became a talented dancer. At the Pilar López Ballet Mario Maya partnered with La Chunga from 1956 to 1958. They debuted at the Biombo Chino in Madrid and toured South America and the United States. La Chunga also performed with famed local dancer Teo Morca at Cafe de Chinitas in Madrid. JOSÉ SALAZAR MOLINA, más conocido en el mundo del arte flamenco con el nombre artístico de PORRINA DE BADAJOZ, nació en Badajoz en el año de 1924 y murió en Madrid en 1977. Gitano y probablemente el más importante cantaor que ha dado Extremadura. Por lo menos el que mayor fama alcanzó en vida. Perteneció a una familia en la que siempre se conoció el cante y el baile, a cuya casa llamaban Villa Rosa, porque prácticamente todos los días se organizaban en ella grandes juergas. Su recuerdo sigue vivo, por cuanto buen número de los cantaores extremeños en activo son miembros de su familia, incluidos un buen puñado de nietos que integran la joven generación de flamencos extremeños.
You bring back fine memories, as I partnered La Chunga for a long stretch at the Cafe de Chinitas.
ReplyDeleteShe was a wonderful person with a giant heart and we did Hospitals and old folks home on our days off in the afternoons. With her, I had a chance to work with the best singers like El Indio, El Portuguez, guitarists like Serranito, Felipe Maya etc.
She was a special person in and out of flamenco.
